The first Scotch transparent tape was created by 3M engineer Richard Drew in 1930. It was developed as a moisture-proof seal for collophane food packages. Scotch became a common household brand during the Great Depression, as resourceful customers used the tape to mend books, curtains, clothing and other items.
Today, Scotch Brand tape products come in hundreds of colors and patterns and can be found around the world.
