In the late 1800s, B. J. Johnson & Company developed a successful bar soap that was made with olive and palm oils. It had a distinctive light green color and was named “Palmolive” after its ingredients. By the early 1900s, Palmolive was the world’s most popular soap. After merging with the Colgate company in 1928, the product family expanded to include liquid dish soap, shampoo, hair conditioner, body wash and liquid hand soap.
